Susan A. Foster went to work for Roush’s Accounting & Tax Service; within a month she was a partner with Bill Roush. Bill worked as a prison guard in Ionia 3rd shift and then did taxes out of an office located in Hastings, MI. She and Bill opened their 2nd office at 111 Broadway, Middleville, MI on July 5, 1988 where local resident Robert Welton was her first client. They incorporated their business in January 1990. In 1992 Susan became licensed with Money Concepts to be able to serve her tax clients as she saw their needs for retirement plans and insurance. In 1993 Susan and Bill built a new office at 100 Broadway and the other building was demolished. After the 1993 tax season, Bill Roush decided to retire from both the prison and doing taxes to deliver motor homes across the country so that he could see the states. Susan bought him out and had to rename the business and after a lot of thought chose Thornapple Financial Center Inc. She also decided that she just wanted to run one office, so she closed the Hastings office, but due to the prescheduling of appointments was able to keep 97% of both the Middleville and Hastings clientele. Clients could no longer write their checks to “RATS”, which was most of their sentiments toward taxes, but they could have all their financial needs taken care of in one location. 

In 2003 John Anderson came to join ranks with Susan working part-time in Middleville and part-time running MTC Business Services out of Rockford. When Susan first moved into the new building at 100 Broadway, she called it the Taj Mahal because of all the space that they had there. In 2007 it became apparent that the business needed a new location to continue to grow, so on August 26, 2007 they had their grand opening at their new location at 4695 N Middleville Rd. where the business operated for 7 years. In 2008 Susan and John became Co-Regional Directors with Money Concepts for the state of Michigan before moving to their current location. John and Susan had purchased the building where their offices are currently located as a rental in January 2013. In the fall of 2013, David Foster joined the business full-time where he oversees the office during tax season and is a year-round financial planner and wealth manager. In the fall of 2014, we moved to our current location after turning the spaces into the beautiful offices that we currently enjoy. 

So, it began 37 years ago, and we are still servicing the community doing taxes and accounting. We have been doing financial planning for 31 years, with a company that just celebrated its 44th anniversary. And to think that 42 years ago when Ken Foster said to Susan as they drove through Middleville to go to his parents “Someday we are going to live here.” And her response, “Over my dead body”. Susan loves Middleville and the surrounding communities. And in case you were wondering she still is doing taxes for some of those clients that she started with in 1986.
